Legal Greens Dispensary in Codman Square opened its doors last week. The recreational marijuana store replaces a dispensary that once operated there and comes after more than a year\u2019s worth of regulatory hurdles from the state and city.<\/p>\n

Mark Bouquet and Vanessa Jean-Baptiste have owned and operated Legal Greens in Brockton for more than five years. About 17 months ago, after LowKey Dispensary had to vacate the location, the Legal Greens partners stepped in. They are licensed for retail and delivery in both locations now.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe always had it in mind to have multiple locations in the state, so to now have one in Brockton and a second in Boston is really great for us,\u201d said Bouquet, who has been active in the Codman Square community and merchant\u2019s group since taking over the space last year. <\/p>\n

\u201cA lot is happening in the industry and not a lot of people are expanding,\u201d he said, \u201cbut it will rebound and won\u2019t stay this way forever. We\u2019re really building for the future.\u201d<\/p>\n

Legal Greens also has a cultivation facility in Brockton with a provisional license, and both owners said the idea is to take their products from \u201cseed to sale.\u201d<\/p>\n

Said Bouquet: \u201cThe plan is definitely for cultivation as well as retail sales. The cultivation will help us be vertically integrated and will help the overall business. Expansion isn\u2019t what we were looking to do immediately, but that\u2019s how it happened.\u201d<\/p>\n

Being in Codman Square is sort of a homecoming for Bouquet, who recalls getting medical care at Codman Square Health Center and visiting businesses in the district as a young person. He said he is encouraged by the new merchants\u2019 group forming in Codman Square and plans to be a contributor.<\/p>\n

\u201cCodman Square is definitely on the upswing, and I know things have been tough,\u201d he said. \u201cBut I think it\u2019s Codman Square\u2019s time and we\u2019re here to help that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bouquet and Jean Baptiste said they have hired 15 area residents to staff up the Codman Square location in recent months. The store officially opened on Oct. 7.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
